Ursula Cleary is a freelance writer, researcher and editor.
In 2016, she was awarded a QANZAC 100 Fellowship by the State Library of Queensland to research Annie and Portia Wheeler and their extraordinary work during the first world war. This research is the basis for a television series focusing on Portia, Annie and other women who shared a boarding house in Westminster, London, the heart of wartime military operations. She tells a little of their story in this blog and two SLQ Vimeo videos – Discovering Annie Wheeler, and my 2016 Fellowship video.
Ursula’s screenwriting credits include the feature film Don’t Tell, released in 2017 and several episodes of series one and two of the ABC drama, The Time of Our Lives”. Don’t Tell was nominated for an AACTA Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Ursula script edited the telemovie, Beaconsfield which screened on the Nine Network and was researcher on the ABC mini-series Paper Giants – The Magazine Wars.
In 2015 she completed a Graduate Diploma of Journalism at QUT with a GPA of 7 and was awarded a place on the Dean’s List for Academic Excellence.
